Maximise Claims Against Building Works
With signs of a recovering economy, accountancy practice Mapus-Smith & Lemmon LLP is urging businesses to make sure they claim all capital tax allowances against building works.
One of the firm’s partners, Jason Hall, who specialises in construction matters advising construction companies and entrepreneurs developing their own premises, has found many people are unaware about how much they can claim.
"Capital allowances apply to plumbing, electrical work, partition walls and a whole host of other areas," said Mr Hall. "If we are armed with all the build cost information, we can save our clients a considerable amount of money. Claims of around 30% of the total build cost can be made but we believe in some cases it could be higher."
“With a definite upturn in building projects, I am advising clients to ask their builders for detailed invoices so we can identify all that qualifies for tax allowances and maximise their claims. It can be a false economy going with a cheaper quote which omits invoice details.”
