Mapus Charity Challenge 2011
Thank you to everyone who supported us in our
100K Charity Challenge 2011.
The weekend was a great success!
On Saturday 30th April 19 cyclists covered in excess of 950km. On Sunday 6 runners completed the Kings Lynn GEAR for another 60km and on Monday 2nd May 24 employees and 11 family friends walked, in total, over 685km. This gives a grand total of over 1,695km travelled over the three days.
The weather stayed dry for us and even though the wind was a little stronger than we would have liked everyone rose to challenge and pushed themselves to the limits to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We had set £5,000 as our fundraising target and at the moment it looks like we should actually raise in excess of £6,000 which is fantastic. Once we know the total amount raised we will update the website.
This would not have been possible without the kind and generous support of so many of our clients and for this we are all extremely grateful.
Finally, well done to everyone who took part over the weekend. Well done Team Mapus!!

In 2011 Mapus-Smith & Lemmon LLP and Mapus Financial Planning Limited are organising an event to raise money for charity.
This year is the centenary of the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity. They have set themselves a target that in this region they want to sign up 100 local businesses to raise at least £1,000 each. We think, with your support, that we can raise in excess of this amount.
Using the centenary theme we are organising a 100km challenge. Over the May Day bank holiday weekend (Saturday 30th April to Monday 2nd May 2011) we will cover 100km by various means. On the Saturday we have arranged a 70km cycle ride, on the Sunday a team will take part in the 10km G.E.A.R in Kings Lynn and on the Monday we will finish with a 20km walk ending back in Kings Lynn.
So many of us are touched by cancer and we have chosen to support Macmillan as it is such a worthwhile charity.
· £15 could pay for 32 copies of The cancer guide. This Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer, and their families, understand more about cancer, its treatment, and the help available.
- £18 could pay for a Macmillan benefits adviser to work in a Citizens Advice Bureau (or Macmillan information and support centre, or local council, or hospital setting) for an hour. In this time, they would advise people with cancer, their families and carers so they can access benefits and other kinds of financial support they are entitled to.
- £25 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
The Gift Aid scheme is for gifts of money by individuals who pay UK tax. Gift Aid donations are regarded as having basic rate tax deducted by the donor. Macmillan will take your donation - which is money you've already paid tax on - and reclaim the basic rate tax from HM Revenue & Customs. This means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £12.50 to the charity. For donations between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011 the charity will also get a separate government supplement of three pence on every pound you give.
Thank you very much for your support and we will keep you updated with the progress of our challenge and the money we raise.
